On April 9th and 10th, Wesleyan University, Middletown’s CT South Fire District Fire Department, the Community Health Center, and the Community Foundation of Middlesex County co-sponsored an equipment drive for Ukrainian Firefighters. Organizers of the drive partnered with the Community Self-Help NGO and Lviv Oblast Fire Department in Ukraine.

Ukrainian firefighters today play a special role in taking on the blows of war and boldly responding to challenges.

Specialized fire equipment, first-aid kits, bandages, pain relievers, and other medical equipment were driven by truck, shipped by boat from Middletown CT via New Jersey, and arrived in Lviv at Community Self-Help a few weeks later.

Firefighting equipment (helmets, protective suits, and masks, special shoes, gloves, suits for chemical protection, oxygen cylinders, lanterns, and much more) was handed over to:

- Lviv Fire Department, State Emergency Department of Ukraine in Lviv region

- the fire station in Skola and Slavsk, State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region

- Mykolaiv fire department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region

- fire station in Myrhorod (Poltava region)

First aid kits, dressing materials, bandages, plasters, etc. were handed over to Ukrainian defenders in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions.

Medicines, medical gowns, masks, protective screens, and dressing materials. bandages, bandages, and plasters were given to hospitals in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions.

We are also infinitely grateful to Professor at Wesleyan University Katja Kolcio,

South Fire District Chief James Trzaski,

Senator Blumenthal, and Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim – for organizing efforts!

A lot of thanks to Middletown’s CT South Fire District Fire Department and other Fire Departments across Connecticut and New England – for specialized fire equipment, to local residents of Middletown – for purchasing and dropping off medical equipment,

to Students from the Haddam-Killingworth Middle School – for collecting supplies, and making cards,

Ihor Samila (is the head of the ltd Haben company) for helping us with the warehouse.

The Middletown event caught the attention of NBC news. Here are links to two stories featuring the event and shipping:
